Sat 14-Feb 04	Edinburgh - Drumnadrochit, Scotland

Today we left Edinburgh and started our drive up into the Scottish Highlands to Loch Ness.  Our first stop was in Stirling to visit Stirling Castle, another incredible castle perched atop a rocky outcrop similar to Edinburgh Castle (not quite as good, but close).  The Old Town of Stirling, below the castle is also quite quaint with narrow cobbled streets and various old buildings.

We continued our drive north (in a round-about way), stopping briefly in Dunblane to see Doune Castle (as seen in 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'), through Callander and on to Killin.  The scenery was amazing and just kept getting better the whole way today.  We saw lots of large and small Lochs, green, yellow and even lots of purple coloured trees - a very pretty landscape.

At Killin we saw the slowly meandering 'Falls of Dochart' and amazing highlands mountain views in the background.

We then drove along Loch Tay (with pretty reflections) and then at Aberfeldy we turned north towards Loch Tummel over the 'Strath of Appin'.  This is a very picturesque road of small reflective lochs, bog land, purple trees etc.  Next we drove along Loch Tummel and south slightly to Pitlochry and the Edradour Distillery (the smallest in Scotland, and all produced by hand) where Jason did a tour and of course had a wee dram.

The daylight was starting to run out now and we still had a bit of distance ahead of us, so we got back on the road north and headed over the Grampian Mountains to Inverness (for some dinner) and then halfway along Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit for the night.
